Copy-paste parts of your cycle

Copy and paste parts of your cycle within Earthster and into a spreadsheet

Updated over 5 months ago

With Earthster you can copy and paste parts of your cycles within cycles and even to a spreadsheet.

When you paste from a spreadsheet you can even modify the information before you paste. With Earthster's mapping suggestions you can multiply your productivity in LCA!

Copying parts of your cycle

  1. Navigate to the info tab of the input you want to copy

    • You can copy processes, bundles and custom processes

    • Formulas added to your input will not be copied

  2. Open the dropdown menu in the bottom of the drawer and click Copy to clipboard

    • You can paste the data into any of your cycles or a spreadsheet

NOTE: Stages can't be copied but you can create a bundle and move all the inputs under it and copy the bundle instead.

Paste copied elements into a cycle

  1. Navigate to the info tab of the location you want to paste into

  2. In the dropdown menu click Paste from clipboard

    • You can paste the data into any of your cycles or a spreadsheet

NOTE: Formulas added to your input will not be pasted.

Advanced copy-paste from a spreadsheet

You can use the copy-paste function to easily upload data for example from bill of materials and inventories. To get started copy a structure from Earthster and paste it into a spreadsheet. Keep the column and their headers as is and modify the table as needed.

Copy-pasted table structure

The pasted table headers will follow this order, written in lower case:

type

name

value

unit

reference

id

parent

other

Columns and their explanations:

*mandatory input

  • type*: Indicates the type of the input:

    • B: bundle

    • F: process (flow)

    • C: custom process

    • E: exchange

  • name*: Title of the item

  • value*: Numerical quantity associated with the item.

  • unit: Unit of measurement for the value (kg, kWh, unit).

    • NOTE: Bundles have a value of 1 and do not have units

  • reference: Earthster specific reference id of the dataset

    • Only processes and exchanges have an reference id

      • Leaving them empty triggers the mapping function upon pasting the data into Earthster

  • id*: Unique identifier for each item (within the copied structure).

    • Each item must be in consecutive numbering

  • parent: ID of the parent item (if applicable).

  • other: A field for additional information in JSON format.

    • Available fields: description, geography

Mapping an element without a reference id to a process in the database

If you leave the reference id empty for a process (F) or an exchange (E) the system will ask you to map those items to a process or a cycle in the database. The system suggests an input based on the type and name of the item in your table.

  1. Paste the data into the desired location in Earthster

  2. Click Pick other to map it to another process than the suggested one or to skip it

  3. Search for the dataset or cycle you would like to map it with and click Select mapping

    • Optional: Click the Skip mapping to create an empty custom process instead of selecting a process from the database

  4. Once you are satisfied with your selection click the button Paste and import
