Uploading data to Earthster

How to bring your data into Earthster: Bills of Materials, external models, Scenario Matrix, supplier data, exported Earthster JSON, etc

From your workspace you can use the button Upload data (advanced feature under Create new cycle). Earthster works out what kind of file it is and does one of three things:

Your upload

Examples

What Earthster does

Table with one row per process input.

Bill of Materials, LCA modals as tables, Concatenated Bills of Materials, Generator file.

Generates or updates cycles from the table. It will show you a preview of the plan first.

Table with one row per existing cycle.

Scenario matrix, New parameters per cycle, New attributes per cycle, Updated version of Replicator file.

Updates those cycles in batch, updating values based on each of the columns.

JSON file.

Cycle exported as JSON from Earthster.

Imports the cycle.

Tables can be XLSX, XLS or CSV. Earthster reads only the first sheet, and the first row must hold the column titles. If a file doesn't match any of these formats, you'll see an error and can pick another file.

Generate cycles from a table

Use this to build many cycles at once from your own data, such as a bill of materials. Each row is one input of one cycle. Some columns are required: cycle/SKU, process/component, value/amount, unit and geography. You can also add much more information. See Generator for more details.

Update cycles in batch

Use this to change values in cycles that already exist in the workspace. For example, you can set a different weight or transport distance for each product. Each row is one cycle. The table needs a name column (the cycle to update), and columns starting with #tag (to update processes based on tags), @parameter (to update a parameter in the model), !category|method to set an impact override, and *attribute to update an attribute in the cycle (e.g. Geography). See Replicator for more details.

Import a cycle from JSON

Use this to copy a cycle from one workspace or Earthster instance into another. To get the file, open the cycle's export drawer and download it as JSON. Then upload that file here and Earthster creates the cycle in the current workspace.
